Organisation

Founded in 2002, Seven Investment Management manages money for a range of private investors.

They currently manage over £6.4 billion and have developed a reputation as an investment manager people trust with their pension money and savings.

The business has won a range of awards for investment management, service and technology.

Seven Investment Management was finding its previous legacy systems simply couldn’t perform the detailed analysis increasingly required by the business. This included the ability to drill down to view transactional level details and dissect data in meaningful ways.

Several systems were considered, but the strength of the analytics and ease of use of Infor SunSystems made this the best fit, and it was therefore identified as the optimum dedicated financial solution for the company’s business requirements.

Jamie Duncan, Finance Manager at Seven Investment Management, said the implementation process went according to plan.

“I think we got off to a good start with the project as we had spent a lot of time considering our system requirements and specific reporting and analytical needs. The project commenced in September and we were aiming to go live on 1st of January 2014, which we did; it all went smoothly,” he said.

Although workload increased initially after implementation, Jamie already feels SunSystems is meeting expectations. “We got exactly what we needed in terms of the analysis we were seeking. It has taken lots of hard work to organise initially, but we were prepared for this as it’s an inevitable part of the system set-up.”

In terms of business benefits, Jamie said it was difficult to even make comparisons with the old system, which wasn't capable of similar processes.

“Previously we simply weren't able to conduct the analysis that we can now, so it will be highly beneficial. “In my mind Infor SunSystems is a very good dedicated financial package on the market for mid-sized companies. It is very user-friendly and meets all the requirements of an accounting solution; it is an excellent fit for Seven Investment Management,” he said. Jamie was already familiar with the Sapphire brand, and shortlisted the company as potential SunSystems resellers after receiving positive recommendations from other colleagues.

“We did consider another reseller, but after initial meetings Sapphire was our preferred option,” he said.

Jamie also said it was easy dealing with the Sapphire team once the project commenced.

“The project was well planned and there was always a point of contact if required (even if people were away), which made it easier to maintain momentum. Vicki and the consultants possess not only strong product knowledge, but are personable and easy to get on with, which always helps with such a major project.

“Sapphire is not a massive company, and you get better service as a result; you still feel like they care about the customer. SunSystems is very widely used, especially in the financial services sector, but the Sapphire team are very knowledgeable and provide excellent support – we have always been able to speak to someone whenever assistance is needed,” Jamie said.

Seven Investment Management also utilise Q&A reporting and a customised bank transfer module to enhance SunSystems core functionality. In the future the business will consider further integration with its other in- house systems, but currently the focus is on making the most of the enhanced analysis and reporting capabilities now available to the team.
