Corporate
Social Responsibility
Sapphire is committed to
being a socially responsible organisation and employer. This means
making a positive impact on the lives of our staff, clients and the
wider community we operate in. We endeavour to manage our
environmental impact, support staff involvement in community
initiatives, ensure the health and wellbeing of our employees, and
work responsibly with clients and suppliers.
Doing
Good is Good for Business
Sapphire’s Social and Environmental Contribution
includes
sponsorship of the
Globe Theatre. For our annual
customer care survey we offer donations to our chosen charity -
Children with Leukaemia. We
also give ad hoc donations to our clients and staff if they are
fundraising. We help to promote staff wellbeing by offering a
reduced gym membership, child care vouchers and we have a high take
up on our Ride-to-Work scheme.
Valuing Employees:
We seek to foster an
atmosphere in which our employees can fully demonstrate their skills
and abilities, and in which their diversity and individuality is
valued. When asked, 100% of our employees agreed that Sapphire
employs staff from a diverse range of backgrounds. We strive to
maintain a safe and comfortable workplace environment in which our
employees are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.
Environmental, Resources and Energy:
Our aim is to protect,
promote and enhance our environment, while accelerating the building
of a sustainable way of life. We will take a positive, solutions
oriented approach that recognises our impact on the environment. We
recycle all paper and toner and printer cartridges, buy Fair Trade
products, and have installed lights that will automatically switch
off when no one is around. We have a computers “off, not on standby”
policy in place throughout the company.
Sapphire’s CSR Programme
We believe that
it is time to consolidate our ad-hoc Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) contributions and implement a coordinated CSR programme. As an
international business we want to take the responsibility to ensure
that we have a corporate policy that each of our offices can comply
with and also support our employees in community initiatives that
they are pursuing.
Our CSR
Coordinator, Jan Fair reports directly to the Managing Director of
Sapphire Systems, Ian Caswell. She is currently developing a CSR
policy with the help of “Heart
of the City”. We have committed to a two year
practical programme to develop existing CR activates and implement
new initiatives. Hopefully, this will allow us to initiate, sustain
and communicate a strong CSR Policy. We envisage that there will be
interest in and are prepared to invest in, projects such as:
Matched Funding -
where Sapphire matches the
amounts raised by staff when participating in fundraising activities
Corporate Volunteering –
where each employee is
given a day’s leave to volunteer for their chosen charity or to work
within Sapphire's programme
Environmental Action Plan –
Global Action Plan are currently
working with us to create a strategy to reduce our carbon emissions
A Word from Jan –
“We would like to give our
staff the opportunity to be part of the decision-making process of
our CSR programme and are currently canvassing them to discover how
they would like our CSR programme to develop. Watch this space to
see how it grows. So far, we have had some lovely responses – people
in this company are already doing great things! “Heart
of the City” has introduced me to individuals who
have implemented inspiring, ambitious, thoughtful and award winning
projects. The CSR programme that we embark on will be something that
everyone in the company can be proud of”
