Marlin Financial Services was at the point where selecting and implementing a new business management solution was critical. The company wanted to improve their business and financial processes and saw the need to replace their current system which lacked functionality.

Marlin Financial Services was at the point where selecting and implementing a new business management solution was critical.
Colin Waters, Finance Director at Marlin Financial Group, said the need to replace their system was considered an opportunity. The company wanted to improve their business and financial processes, and both he and the Group Financial Controller, Alan McArdle, already had a solution in mind.
“The fact is our existing solution did not have enough functionality, and we needed to update and streamline our accounting processes. Alan and I had both implemented and used Infor SunSystems in our previous roles and knew it would work well for us here too,” said Colin.
Similar to the selection of a new system, choosing a supplier was not a difficult task for the team at Marlin Financial Services. Alan had worked with Sapphire Systems in the past and knew the company as one that delivers what it says it will deliver.
“We both thought Sapphire was an excellent company to work with and they have proved this to be the case again. They really listen to the requirements of a business and then relay back to you with an in-depth system spec and overview project plan.
“One of the particular things I appreciated about Sapphire’s presentation is that they didn’t use technical jargon or try to gloss over any problems we may encounter with the solution. It’s important you understand what you’re getting into and a clear presentation is necessary to appreciate the task ahead,” said Colin.
The implementation process went as smoothly as Colin, Alan and the rest of the team at Marlin Financial Services had hoped. The project adhered exactly to the time frame they had set and Sapphire met this precisely; the first stage began in early August and all was complete by the end of December 2012.
“We couldn’t be more complimentary about Sapphire’s project management and technical team,” Colin said. “Our project manager was first rate and so was our technical consultant. We were given a detailed project plan that covered all the aspects of the implementation from start to finish – build, delivery, testing, accepting and migration was all included.”
Colin continued by saying: “What pushes Sapphire to the top as an Infor SunSystems partner is that they spend enough time with the customer to ensure they understand what needs to be done on a day to day basis. Our consultant did this 100 percent with us and it was reflected in the final build.”
The team even had weekly meetings throughout the implementation process to ensure everything was on track and Colin was happy to report it always was.
Colin and the team at Marlin Financial Services believe they have implemented a solution that is fit for purpose, has saved them a great deal of time and enables the company to complete more complex accounting and reporting. Furthermore, it has pleased the auditors, and the company has since had the solution signed off and given a clean bill of health.
Colin elaborated on the benefits gained from the solution by saying: “It’s really doing exactly what we expected of it and that’s great for us. It is not overly complicated to use or train new users on, and has saved us a great deal of time by eliminating our manual workarounds.
Colin said Sapphire’s support services have also been excellent since the solution has been installed. He feels the support team offer excellent service and are easy to work with, a reflection of his overall view of the company.
“We are eventually looking to link Infor SunSystems to data warehouse and are considering the possibility of a P2P solution next year. I am looking forward to the help and support of Sapphire during that time too.”
